Privacy and your Christmas letters
Free letters and drafts
Your free letter is edited in your browser. A first name or nickname is enough. A draft is remembered in local browser storage only if a parent switches on Remember this draft. Clear letter removes the current and remembered draft; it cannot erase downloaded or printed copies.
Optional email
An adult reviews the letter and confirms that the recipient agrees to receive it. Sending shares the letter and entered addresses with our email service and the chosen recipient. An optional sender address lets the recipient reply; requesting a copy also sends the letter to that address. Free letter content is not saved as a permanent server-side archive.
Paid Santa replies and certificates
For a paid order, the reviewed reply, certificate text and buyer email are stored encrypted on our server for up to 30 days. Stripe receives the buyer email and an opaque order reference, not the child’s name or reply text. The two PDFs are provided through a private order link and sent to the buyer’s address after payment. Keep that link private and download your own copies.
The Christmas elf counter
Tapping the elf saves an anonymous browser identifier to remember that browser’s cheer. The server uses hashed identifiers to prevent repeat cheers and limit abuse. The number counts cheers, not everyone who visits the website. Different browsers or cleared browser data can be treated as different browsers.
Protecting your family’s information
Keep surnames, home addresses and other private details out of children’s letters. On a shared device, leave Remember this draft switched off and clear the letter when finished. Payment and email providers process the information needed to provide their services.
